You will need a process of elimination to troubleshoot. Bypass the Sony receiver, use a better HDMI cable (18GB and certified) and go over the settings. Reducing the number of variables makes troubleshooting much easier. If the Blu Ray player is connected directly to the TV with a number of different cables of known quality, using one or another of the TV inputs, with proper setups and still doesn't work then you might want to replace that player. Before that it will take you about half an hour to eliminate all other possibilities. There is testing equipment that an professional AV installer can use to make sense of this puzzle but that equipment is expensive. You can use the elimination process or hire a professional.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The unit will only broadcast 2160 when 2160 is available therefore you cannot upconvert cable/satellite. If you are using a 4k dvd player or subscribe to netflix 4k it will air in 2160 if the Hdmi cable is connected to a 4k tv or receiver/tv. The Blu ray dvd must be 4k to air 4k, upconvert does not air 2160. So automatic is where it should set too.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Had the same problem trying to go through a Pioneer AVR to my Sony 85" XBR TV with HDMI cables. Doing the same with a Sony BDP-S6200 1080p BD player works fine when the player output is upscaled to 4k. I had to connect the UBD-K8500 Samsung UBD-K8500 HDMI output directly to the TV HDMI input with the TV optical audio output plugged into the AVRs "TV" audio input.

Please try again later.Monoprice makes some great cables for older equipment but for anything over 1080 P resolution on a 4K player & receiver you need quality high speed cables, go online to Best Buy & order the Audioquest Cinnamon.high speed cables, they also make Chocolate, Forrest & even Diamond, & you will see an huge improvement !!! Make sure you have it plugged into HDMI- 3 port or whatever is 4k on your receiver !!! My Best Buy guy sold me on these I swear by them !!!
