• The amount of space that the operating system takes up is almost nil. The player will actually nearly 8gb of mp3's. The total number of files that can be placed on here depends on the compression that is used. I haven't downloaded any audio books or podcasts on this player, so I don't know how that will affect total storage space.

• Close to the 8 advertised. Add a good 16-32GB micro SD card! They are very inexpensive!!!
