Its plastic, so contact with anything harder than plastic can scratch it (jewelry, metals etc.). I would avoid putting it in a pocket with coins & keys. I would not say that the screen will scratch easily, but the player is so convenient and sounds so good that it would be worth it, if you are really concerned about scratching it to maybe cut down a phone screen protector to fit and use that for extra protection.

OMG YES! I've had other Sansa/Sandisk Clip models that barely had a scratch on them. If this one as much as touches something it scratches.
