It works wireless with an app that you download to your iPad, but you don't need wifi to use it. It just sends its own wireless signal back and forth to your iPad. So it doesn't physically connect to the iPad. The USB works with a desktop or laptop. You can download a movie from a desktop, then play it wirelessly on your iPad.

If you want to use it thru the internet, that option is included with the wireless flash drive. FYI: the flash drive comes preloaded with several instructional videos.
