Hi Gail, please be informed that all our Memory Cards are non-volatile storage devices, that means they keep the data that is stored into them even if they do not get power unless deleted by a user/ software.

It is common practice to keep memory stored in multiple locations. For example physical (like the SD card, but stored on its own), digital (like on the cloud), and on board (attached to your phone). So no, if the card gets short-circuited then your data on it will die. That's true for basically every brand though. Electricity will kill electronics, that's all there's to it.
