Did you ever end up doing this. I am on the fence between that plan, or just running it through a usb 3.0 . Thunderbolt 2 (which I have) would be preferable, but was not sure if it would work.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi, please be informed that we have not tested connecting this SSD Drive using converters/ adapters on computers. In order to know if your 2011 iMac would support this SSD Drive using a Apple Thunderbolt Adapter, it would be best to contact Apple Support as they have the expertise for the same.

Although I’ve not tried it with this drive I have used that adapter to connect Thunderbolt 1 drives to Thunderbolt 3 computers and it worked well. Just be sure to use an Apple adapter, not a third party adapter as third party adapters increase risk of failure. If it doesn’t work, it would be because this drive is USB 3.1, it works on Thunderbolt equipped computers but may not work with the Thunderbolt adapter. You could return the adapter to Best Buy if you find it doesn’t work.
