The issue is not compatibility with an operating system but, rather, the computer's hardware. A computer running Windoze XP will not have USB 3 or 3.1 ports but instead will be USB 2 or even USB. USB 3 drives are backwards compatible with these older USB specifications but the read/write speeds will be slowed to what the computer hardware will support.
