It appears heavy duty enough to work with a 40" . You will lose a small portion of the swivel motion because the arm will not extend far enough from the wall to produce a 90 degree movement. (It would need to extend only 1" further to get the full 90 degrees.)

Please try again later.No, I thought I would be able to get away with using this mount on my 40 inch Samsung LED because it's much less but the mounting point is different then on the 15-39 inch tv's. I wouldn't recommend using this even if the mount worked on your Vizio. I have small dogs at home and couldn't imagine having it fall on one because I was too cheap to spend the extra 30 bucks for the correct wall mount.
