Considering there are spikes and lows in the electrical current, and the cost of your entertainment unit, it is well worth buying a surge protector. In fact, most surge protector have insurance against damage to your equipment connected to the surge protector.

If you are looking for surge protection and can run power directly to the TV outlet, the TV1WTVSSW or the TV3WTVSSW surge protective kits would work for you.
