Questionwill these work with sony core series bookshelf speakers?

- Answer Not familiar with the Sony core speakers. But the top plate of the stand is 6"w x 6.5. So if the Sony's are bookshelf speakers with a flat base then probably should work. The stands are made of steel and are solidly built so they should be able to hold most bookshelf speakers.

- Answer To add weight to counter a big heavy speaker. To keep them from tipping. Yes they can be filled with sand.

- Answer Have the B&W 685-S2's on Sanus 24" stands, seems right to get the tweeter at roughly ear level.

- Answer Hi there, They would sit on the top. The top plate for this specific stand is 6.50" x 6". If your looking for a larger top plate I'd recommend the SF22 stand, it's top plate is 8.50" x 8.50". Thanks, - Haydn @ SANUS
