You can use it an as many as you want. It will not overwrite anything without prompting you.

You do need a viewer to open files, so your operating system should tell you if you do or not when you plug it in. Enjoy!

I have never had a problem with losing information when combining info from different devices. Just make sure that the files are named differently and you should have no problems.

Windows and Windows ok, Windows & Mac not so sure, the Seagate software seemed to support drive portioning, but I have not tried mixing formats 1 2 TB partition using Windows, 1 2 TB portion using Mac. For Windows to Windows treat just like a thumb drive (or Mac to Mac)
