“The box shows photo of a power on/off button but I cannot find one on the actual device. Side it's supposed to be on does not look like side in photo on box. I don't like leaving them on all the time..and don't like the idea of just unplugging it.”

There's no on or off switch noted on my box. But unplugging will not damage it. Just be sure to close out all of your documents after you save them to the drive. Then eject it from the computer correctly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.There is no power on/off switch on this unit. I plug it in when I want to add new items to be saved. I don't like to leave the drive plugged into my laptop because I lost a WD portable hard drive when I stood up and forgot about the hard drive. The drive came unplugged and fell a short distance to the floor and wouldn't work after that. It was difficult recovering what I had saved to the drive. There is automatic backup software that comes with this drive that helps with system recovery, if needed.
