I do not use a Mac, I have PC. But on the box it has System Requirements: Operating System - Windows 10 | Windows 8.1 | Windows 7 | MAC OS v10.8-10.12 I hope that helps you.

I also use this HHD on mac and PC. I formatted the portable HHD as FAT32 (MS-DOS). I use the drive on my PC, mac, on TV, car entertainment system. This format is universal. Back up everything on the drive b/4 you format the drive.

Yes, I have movies on a Seagate 2 terabyte Ext. HD recorded off of a mac and it also plays on a windows computer with no difference in clarity! Excellent! It should last at least 5 years.
