• Not sure about direct from the TV, but I have a DVR and the minimum recommended size is larger than 500GB

• Yes. It is basically a storage device that you can record any data on it. For as long as it is connected to your TV via the USB port, any media can be saved on it after downloading or streaming however you do it.
