Currently, they have kindle fire hd 8gb and we can only store one movie on it. Thats fine at home because of the network. Can i use this to store movies and then use a usb to hook up the kindle to watch or download more movies? On a car ride im looking for some way to let them watch more movies. is this an option? are there other options?”

Absolutely! This is a perfect example of a reason to own a slim drive. So long as your device (Kindle, Tablet, W/E) can access files connected to it through USB, like on a thumb drive, you can use this. I would recommend downloading all the content you want from your computer to the slim drive, then simply remove it from the computer and plug it to the device.

It has 16 gb internal, so you can probably store at least 2 movies without a micro sd card. You can also hook it up to your kindle, computer or external HD's usb port using the charger cord. Just remove the AC portion of the charging cable & plug in the USB connector to your PC, Mac or external HD to copy files.
