I realize this is over a year old, but with these next gen consoles becoming easier to find, maybe this question will come up for someone else. For the original answer, NO, this will NOT allow X/S games to run from it instead of having to install them on the internal SSD. More info is below. This HDD will store any games you put on it. You can play old gen games from it (Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox OneX) if they aren't "Series X/S Optimized." If you have a Series X/S game, the console will prompt you when you select the tile, something like "...you must install this game on internal storage..." Here's how to do that: From "My games and apps" select the "Manage" tab on the left side. Choose "Storage devices." Choose "Move or copy." Find the game, highlight it, and select "Move selected." Choose "Internal storage." To make room for another game, and move the game back to the HDD, do the reverse. "Move or copy" select the item/s, then move it back to the external HDD. Any drive you decide to use with your X/S console must be USB 3.0 or greater. While much more common nowadays, an older HDD 2.0 (for example) won't accomodate games and apps, or captures and screenshots. It will however be suitable for media such as videos and movies. Hopefully this clears up the confusion of all these "answers" that seem to contradict each other. You must purchase the Seagate SSD that is priced the same as a friggin' Series S in order to expand the internal storage capacity.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. No, This can only be done with the internal drive or with the memory card slot on the back of the X.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You can run a few X/S optimized games without transferring them. Some of the older optimized games
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I see some people answering yes but they're wrong. No you can't play Xbox Series X/S games directly from this drive. They can only be played from the internal SSD or the Xbox licensed external SSD expansion. Best Buy you should remove these wrong answers as they show up before correct answers.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you attach it to a Xbox series s yes it will play the majority of games just fine including x/s optimized games on the other hand if you have an Xbox series x the answer is no you'll have to use a memory expansion card as it counts as internal memory Microsoft won't allow play off any external drives but only on the series x
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, that is the entire purpose of having an external drive.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes it will work just fine. It just wont load as fast as the SSD but gameplay remains the same.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.
