• It turns on when the xbox is turned on and the same when turned off. The great thing is you can download a bunch of games and turn off the xbox and the HD will stay on until all the games have been downloaded then turn itself off.

• No, it has a usb 3 cable and wall word power supply. Make sure everything is powered down plug in the usb cable then plum in the power pack and turn on the Xbox. Mine auto detected the drive asked if I'd like to format and use the drive without my prompting it. It will turn off and on by itself don't cut power while the light is on you could loose data. Mine stays powered for about 10 minutes after the Xbox powers off.

• No it does not, it’s on all the time with a blinking white light every once in a while.
