Yes, it works great and allows you to store a lot more games. Some of the games still need to be stored on the Xbox hard drive but this does give you a lot more storage

Yes, you can download games onto it. However, if you want to play and Series S/X enhanced games, they must be played off the internal drive of the Series S. What i have been doing is downloading to the external drive and when I want to play, just transfer the game to the internal drive of the console. Usually only takes a few minutes. You just have to keep an eye on how much space you have internally, but you can move things back and forth. Otherwise you can purchase the expansion card if you don't want to go through the extra steps.
