• Yea it'll just sit there. The console takes extra space for it be used with the Xbox. Unplugging it wont do anything but keep your games and what not on the drive. I just move around with my Drive to other Xbox's to keep my current cloud game data.

• I’m assuming you mean game add-ons, extensions and the like, if yes, ALL data (games, movies, music etc.) will saved to your external hard drive. No issues. No worries.

• If your external drive is unplugged, yes the extra games/data goes away. Unless you have it copied on both the internal and external drives. My recommendation would be to have the games that you use on a regular basis copied to both drives, and anything extra stored to the external drive.
