This is a tough question to answer. You (probably) can back up any pictures and documents you have on your cell phone, but not apps/settings or the OS itself - UNLESS your device is rooted. I can connect my 1tb Seagate drive to my phone and it works, but I have a new-ish phone with Android 12. Some older phones may not be able to connect due to not having the ability to power the drive without an external power source.
