These fully cover your ears and have closed back. I'm not sure on the level of sound part of your question. One thing I do notice is if the volume is too high I believe the music may be heard from outside the headphones - which is why I rated them 4/5 instead of 5 due to noise cancelling not being excellent. I may get a more expensive pair of this brand for that reason. I think the sound itself is compareable to Bose.
