To answer your question, you can use the headphones and others can listen or you put the tv on mute, then only headphones have the sound.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I have a Samsung sound bar (plugged into an HDMI slot) and these headphones (plugged into the optical audio out). When I use the headphones, the TV volume is independently controlled, so I am able to have the TV audio and the headphone audio on at the same time.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I am able to listen to TV through the phones and still have sound from the TV speakers. I have my Sennheiser's connect directly to the TV via an optical cable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes she can, you can have the volume as loud as you want on the tv or even muted and it won't affect your listening pleasure. Hope this helps

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depends on your TV or source if it has the option to mute sound when you connect the headphone jack. If you use the optical connection, then yes she can still listen to the tv.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.TV volume is not cut off if you use the audio out behind your TV as the hookup
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes you can both listen at the same time .... example .... Mother-in-law is hard of hearing. She puts on her headphones, turns up the volume, leaving the tv volume normal for the rest of us.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I really didn't think I'd be able to listen to the external speakers of the TV and the headphones at the same time, but when I hooked these new headphones up to my 65 inch LG 4K, I was pleasantly surprised to find that you could hear with both - or I had the option of just hearing through the headphones. Totally awesome sound and a great feature, though I am not sure whether this is just because of my LG TV pairing.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.No. When he has on the earphones, I cannot hear the sound from the TV.
