So in order to bypass the sensor that is being set off for no reason you have to press the power button and then immediately press and hold the carpet button on the top of the handle until you see the orange lights on the side of the water tank flash on and off. Once they're done flashing you can let go of the carpet button, now you can hydrovac your heart out.
A:AnswerAfter each use, I set it to self cleaning mode, then I thoroughly wash out the dirty water container and filters. I also remove the front cover, and unclip the roller. I wash the cover and the roller in the sink, and also wipe out the housing that holds the roller.
The roller and filter then sit in the holders on the tray to dry until I next use the machine.
It never smells bad due to my doing this.

If this is the problem run it on its base with just water until all suds are gone.
