“Why doesn't this vacuum pick up dog hair on my short carpet?I paid 370.00 dollars for this vacuum and it's a piece of junk the collection cup can only pick up about 1 quarter of a cup of dirt and has to be emptied...I want my money back...”

I'm not sure, I have had no problems picking up dog hair with mine, I have a Yorkie and husky who she'd their weight in hair but have had no issues. Could it possibly be the roller or maybe the suction? Double check the connections on the vac. Or it may just be a defective unit, I would get with shark's support, they are great and extremely helpful!
