Yes, you need your cell phone since you have to download the app. Once you do this, you can schedule how often you want the vacuum to clean your house. You´ll also get notifications in case there´s something wrong with the vaccum, i.e., it´s stuck somewhere and you need to move it so it works again, sensors should be cleaned, etc.

I am not sure the type of phone you will need as I have not connected mine to a phone yet. I just run mine manually for now. Sorry I couldn’t help
