How to empty out cleaner not dust cup null

On handle pull up on the switch like thing to separate from the body of the vacuum and on the back side of the dirt box(don't know the technical term) there is a clip to push down on

We would like to let you know after removing the dust cup from the unit, while holding the dust cup over a trash bin you would push the lower release button on the front of the dust cup.
