You have to switch it off, place it up side down, open the bottom cap ( it shows you which direction to open it) and the filter is on the inside in a plastic protective bag. Remove the bag and place the un bagged filter into the machine, close the lid (line up the markers and then turn- it is a bit tricky!) It should work fine.
