Yes, it can suck up some small dry debris from a dried mess on the floor or furniture, as long as there are no chunks larger than 3-4 mm. But I wouldn't use this as your main dry vacuum system. The tank is meant more for wet/semi-wet stains/messes. The owners manual tells you for larger dried messes with large debris, first dry vacuum and/or manually remove the larger dried debris (stones, chips, pet waste, etc). This machine excels at wet messes and removing stains. Any professional carpet cleaner is always going to vacuum the area to be cleaned first and then use a separate machine to wet clean.
