Donot put the fragrance packet in. Should be fine.

Yes, very strong fragrance. The good news is, you simply twist the teal cartridge out, put it in a sealed plastic bag and throw it away. Then you install the black cover into it's slot. It works just fine. (I also H-A-T-E fragrance). See manual page 5 for instructions and pictures.
