Can this microwave be muted or silenced null

Yes, it can. With the microwave in standby mode (not actually heating anything), press and hold the "8" key for a couple of seconds. You'll hear a beep, which enables and disables the mute feature. Not sure why a Sharp Advisor would tell you otherwise.... the instruction is clearly in the User Manual.
