“I bought this TV thinking its an awesome price for my young son's room. It would not allow me to connect to cable without me getting a Roku account and asking me for a CC. I find this extremely tacky. Once I give my CC does it start charging? Suggestions?”

No, a Roku account won't charge you for anything. It's a free account. You can directly rent shows, movies, and purchase apps through your account which is why it wants your CC. If you're worried about your son making purchases I'm pretty sure there are parental controls to block purchasing. I hope this helps!
