Do i need a separate receiver to play cd’s null

No this stereo has 5 slots for CD's. It sounds great for a shelf system. I bought it for my mother who plays cds, listens to the radio and casts music through the unit's bluetooth from her smartphone.

No additional receiver is necessary, but if you can pull up my previous answer, it may help. In a nutshell, this product is very difficult to use. I can't find my previous answer, but basically it said that I finally got the CD player to work by trial and error. The directions and the remote are basically "Crap". Most of the time I used the buttons on the Box itself. Hope you can find my previous answer, because I never could, to copy and paste it. Good Luck!
