You don't need Directv, but you will need some kind of cable or satellite to view non-Roku channels. For whatever is worth, I bought this Sharp Roku TV on 8/22/17 and had to return it yesterday because the picture went black and I could only get audio. Best Buy accepted the return even though the 15 days had expired. I bought a 49" LG instead. It's a bit more expensive, but picture is much better and I don't need two remotes just to change volume or turn TV on and off, as I did with the Sharp.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We had the same problem, we had to use two remotes. One remote for the volume and power, and the cable remote for everything else. Once we realized the "Sharp" TV wasn't really a Sharp we reprogrammed it using the code for a Hisense TV. Hisense makes the TV and labels it as a Sharp.

You can add the "channel" from the Roku store for DirecTV Now but you need to have a subscription to the service in order for it to work. It may be worth noting that DirecTV Now and DirecTV are not the same thing - the former is a streaming service while the latter is a satellite broadcast service.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The TV can use traditional inputs such as hdmi or OTA Antenna or you can subscribe to services such as sling or Direct TV now for iptv live channels.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes. U still need direct or comcast. D roku is just web chanels with shows or movies in d cloud somewhere. It might have news that u subcribe to for free. Some channels are like netflix or vuduu or hulu that u have to pay for. Roku does not show live tv program like sports etc. Hope this helps.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yeah you will need online living channel like Direct TV Now. It works perfect.
