That is how i have mine set up and it works great. I connected the tv back to the theater system via a digital audio cable fit when i watch smart apps like Netflix on the tv.

HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) normally prohibits exporting a high-quality signal out of a device unless certain hardware requirements are met on both the sending and receiving devices.
