Hello Rick, sensor feature uses humidity from the food to determine the cook time and also controls the power level to determine the correct cook time for the food.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. We initially purchased this GE 1.6 cu ft microwave. After one weekend we had to return it. Top of microwave would over heat within a couple minutes. Unit would become very hot to the touch. Had several instances of unit smoking when in use for under 2 minutes. This was my first experience buying a unit with sensor cooking. Was not a fan of this style of microwave.
