Sorry, I cannot answer your question. I have been dependent upon my repaired, 11-yr. old old Kenmore 2.2 cu. ft., 1200 Watt, microwave, and have not yet discovered whether or not power levels can be changed on the fly without stopping cooking, as I've barely used my new Sharp Model SMC2242DS and have been too busy to study the manual and experiment. I bought this Sharp microwave as I anticipate the Kenmore one to fail soon, since it has already been repaired once. That old Kenmore microwave model appears to have been discontinued, and the Sharp one was the closest I could find to resemble the old Kenmore machine, which I've enjoyed and have become accustomed to using.
