Yes, you can use the multifunction button to pause/stop when playing audio.

Yes the button on the left side, it also answers and hangs up on a phone call.

Yes it is on the left ear peice.

Yes, I have owned multiple generations and they all had a pause feature.

Not sure what you mean about "all three". The regular and mini both have the pause button on the left size. I thought the mini would be quite small, but everyone in my family now wishes they gotten the mini. Do visit the store and test fit the ones on display. I'm the only one that picked up the mini (I'm 50+) and I'm so glad that I did. also keep them out of reach from dogs, my son has had to replace two from his big dog. I guess you can say that dogs seek them out and love them too.
