Since the Shorty has no electronic parts of its own, it can be used in the water. The Shorty is not a floatation mount though, so if you're going to be in deeper water, you'll want to use additional floatation attachments or mounts to be safe.

Yes! I used mine for snowboarding and it has landed in the snow/slush and still holds quality. Has not rusted.

The case itself is made of silicone, plastic, and nylon so it will be fine in water - however, it does not "waterproof" the camera that it encloses. As far as I know, GoPro cameras are all water resistant up to to a certain depth anyway.
