Yes, the camera has a battery that lasts 3-6 months on a single charge, by itself. With the power cable, the camera stays at full charge until the power is cut, and will keep working even after that.

If you decided not to use the cable, the app will keep track of your battery charge, for you to charge it again when necessary. I went with the cable since I'm not always at this property to take care of the battery when it depletes. Hope that helps.

This cable helps charges the battery continuously if you don't want to keep on recharging your camera every 3-6 months. The camera can record the person before he can cut the cable provided the camera angle is towards that person.
