We have the SimpliSafe system with the monitoring. But we don’t have a doorbell. How would this,wok? null

If you don't have a doorbell this is not a good choice unless you have power run for a doorbell already. You need to the two low voltage power wires for a traditional doorbell and a mechanical doorbell chime for this to work and install easily.

It has an optional battery pack that gets attached to the doorframe first if you don’t have a wired doorbell.

as for how it works, it adds to your system just like any other Simplisafe component...

It ties into the SimpliSafe system for notification purposes. Plus you don’t need a separate app. If you chose, it can notify you of movement at your door, and/or bring up the camera. Pretty slick. 
But it’s kind of separate fro the alarm system.

Yes it will work. You will just have 2 separate apps- one for your SimpliSafe and the other for the Ring
