it does use FM frequency and also auxiliary input on radio or you can get direct hook up through antenna lead with fm direct connect kit also sold by best buy--3 ways co connect.

Please try again later.I just put the unit in the base unit at home..when it is activated you can download the sirius xm app on your smart phone and then plug your phone into your stereo usong a tape adapter, aux plug, or bluetooth connection and play the satellite radio from your app through the car stereo while leaving the actual device at home. There are also adapter kits that you can have someone install in your car that will allow you to plug the radio into and play it that way..but i have found using an aux cord and my phone is the easiest.
