The Onyx Plus has a LOT more features ... Key one would be tune start where it essentially acts like a DVR on 18 of your presets and let's you start a song from the beginning when you change channels. Also tune mix and it displays album art. It also has a sports ticker that I think the XM Onyx lacks. Number of stations and installation would be the same so if you don't care about these features, the Onyx will work, but Tune Start is unique to the Onyx Plus and guarantees you won't again here the last 15 seconds of a favorite song.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. The channels are dependent on the package you choose from XM/Sirius so the receiver doesn't come into play. I'm not sure what the differences are between the kits. I chose the Onyx Plus mainly because of the built in FM transmitter. I can't use the Aux cable or straight wire so needed the ability to use the FM transmitter. If the transmitter isnt important and its just to listen to a particular station i wouldnt spend more than i had to.
