The antenna would need to placed in a window that faces where the satellites are, to acquire a signal. That or place it outdoors where it can acquire the satellite. Of course you'll need the home kit to use house voltage to run this. You might want to consider using the app on your phone, Ipad, etc... to listen indoors. I believe this would be an extra charge on your subscription plan

The Onyx is a receiver only with no speakers and is made for use with your car stereo on a FM channel not in use.

For best performance the car antenna is designed to be mounted over a metal ground plate extending about 6 in all directions around the antenna. Often this is not available at home so the home antenna is optimized to not need this. We sell most radios in home or car configurations. You asked about the antenna but a home kit will include a home antenna, an AC power supply and a home dock that will hold the radio upright stably on a desktop. The car version needs to be mounted to your dash or vent which aren't available at home. Also, foliage on bushes or trees will also block the signal so you might get good signal in the winter and then loose it in spring and summer if there are trees or bushes in the way.
