“Since this is a gift, When does the 3 month subscription start...upon purchase or activation? Also, if they do not want to keep it, how long do I have to return it? I don't want to purchase it now if it cannot be returned after Christmas.”

Subscription starts on activation. The return period may be based on your level of your "My Best Buy". They should be able to help you with that at least by the time you check out.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The 3 months won’t start till you activate the radio. As far as returning it, BestBuy has a 30 day return policy but may offer something different since it will be a Christmas gift.
