Hold the remote in the palm of your hand with the keys facing your hand. Position the remote with the battery compartment closer to your thumb. Apply a firm downward pressure on the battery compartment door with your thumb while you insert a pin into the release hole. Then use your thumb to push/slide to door open. This is a child proof cover so it is supposed to be a bit difficult. Sometimes it helps to insert the pin at an angle and 'rotate' the pin so it is also pushing the door in the open direction at the same time you are pushing with your thumb.
