No, batteries are not used in this radio. It must always be connected to the AC power supply.

It is also an internet-only WiFi radio and there is no Ethernet jack to connect a cable directly to a router. It does have an audio output to use RCA pin jack cables to connect to a stereo receiver or audio amplifier with RCA connectors. This is a great radio if you want an easy way to access SiriusXM.
