Not for basic features. Without a subscription you can tune into live feed anytime and get screenshots when an event is triggered (sound, movement, etc.). With a memory card, you can access the recording going back as the size of your memory card allows. For full functionality (cloud storage, video clips of events, etc.), a subscription is needed.

It works right out of the box, and you can access live view and basic features for free. Optional plans are available if you’d like advanced detection and cloud storage.
