Yes it works the same as a cell phone in that sense, it is entirely dependent upon coverage in the area you are at the time. In my home area it uses AT&T or TMobile. You can switch between carriers by using a search function. But there’s no guarantee it will be any faster after switching if you are really in a remote area. It’s not satellite coverage. It’s cellular based so just like a cell phone you can still find areas without any coverage. We don’t have cell towers everywhere just yet. More populated areas and well travel interstate roads should work fine. And faster 5G coverage isn’t guaranteed either. Just don’t expect super fast internet everywhere. It’s location dependent. It’s a solid device. And I am happy with it. It has its limits though.
