Hi, Yes, this system does require an A/V receiver that can support at least a 5.1 system (5 channels of full-range audio and 1 channel for the subwoofer.) The receiver should also have at least 100-watts of power or more per channel to power the system properly. The speakers are black; however, the speaker grilles are white and are paintable.
