I called and asked sonance directly and the rep said yes but recommended getting the square grill adapter for aesthetics. I bought 3 pair. 4 in ceiling and will put two in wall for front left and right. Havent installed yet tho.

The biggest concern I would have is the depth since they are not intended for that purpose, but if you’ve got plenty of space behind then it’s worth a try. I would also be aware that of the sound pollution on the OTHER side of that wall. These speakers are open backed which means they put as much sound out of the back as they do the front. If you cut a hole in your wall to install them, then you’ve removed half of that sound barrier. But these speakers are tremendous for the $$. I bought 1 pair skeptically, and loved them so much I bought 5 more pair for different area around my house and even installed them at my in-laws. Good luck and enjoy!
